Once Sasha was at DeMarco’s home, she heated up some rice in a sock to create a heating pad and tucked the small puppy in a box with blankets so she’d stay nice and warm. After all, she only weighed 11 ounces.
In addition to the little dog’s cleft palate, she also was confirmed to have hydrocephalus, which is a buildup of fluid around the brain. Her brain was just a third of the size it was supposed to be.
The tiniest Pit Bull also suffered a respiratory infection, a urinary tract infection, and some orthopedic issues. But through it all, she’s continued to fight.
“She has an amazing will and determination,” DeMarco said. “Through all this, she really shouldn’t be here.”
Now, Sasha is 3 and a half months old and still only weighs 1 pound 9 ounces. She isn’t quite big enough to have her surgeries yet, but she’s definitely happy and loved. Once she gets older, she’ll have surgery to relieve the fluid from her brain and another to help her eat.
